Team Boar In The Sevenoaks Chronicle

Our first newspaper article was published on Thursday 1st May and was read by literally millions* of people, who rushed into their local shop to grab their copy of the Sevenoaks Chronicle and turned straight to page 8 to read the exciting news!

If you werent one of the lucky ones who managed to bag a copy before it sold out (this may have largely been due to my Mum, who bought at least 12 copies!) you can read the article online, linked from our media page here.

We`re planning more appearances in the paper nearer the time, with our car hopefully decorated with stickers of our sponsors.

* Millions might be a slight exaggeration.

Team Boar on the Radio Again

Team Boar returned to Selhurst Stadium on Saturday 12th April to appear on Crystal Palace Radio for a second time.
Our appearance on The Late & Lazy Breakfast Show started off in confusion, when Nigel forgot to play the scheduled ad break and launched straight into the interview! Nigel asked us about our recently purchased car, and we gave the audience a brief rundown of each of the 19 countries we will be driving through on our way to Mongolia. Then, at the end of our interview, completely without warning, Nigel made us sing happy birthday live on air to 2 listeners, bet they were well impressed!
Just to make our day, Palace beat Scunthorpe 2-0 and we were then invited to the 10th birthday party of Palace Radio.

We`re heading south!

Team Boar have decided unanimously that heading south is the way forward. We will be taking “the southern route”, which means hanging a right around Romania and leaving the northerns to head off across Russia.

So we`ll be going through some really cool countries (well actually bloody hot countries!) like Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, before heading up into Kazakhstan and Russia before cruising into Mongolia.

Stay tuned for more, we are thinking about maybe purchasing some maps…

Mongol Rally Charities Chosen!

After tough consideration, we have anounced our chosen charities for the Mongol Rally 2008.

So here they are…

MercyCorps

The folk from the League of Adventurists (the people who organise the Mongol Rally) announced the principle charity as The Mercy Corps of Mongolia. The Mercy Corps helps under developed areas of Mongolia to develop and become self sufficient, reducing poverty and suffering across Mongolia.

CNCF

In addition, we have selected the Christina Noble Childrens Foundation as our second charity. The foundation provides housing and education to children in Mongolia who would otherwise be on the streets. We chose the Christina Noble Foundation as we have both worked with childrens charities and organisations in the UK.

Find out more on our charities page.

We bought a car!

We have just bought this magnificent vehicle on ebay, having seen it advertised just down the road by Dan in Tonbridge. A tough inspection session revealed that the engine would start (eventually) and that many parts of the car were very firmly held together with cable ties and rust. A thorough test drive revealed that the steering was rather vague, but the vehicle performed rather well when subjected to obstacles such as kerbs and small children*. The exhaust blows like a gale and most of the lights and gauges are temperamental.
We therefore concluded that the vehicle would be absolutely perfect for us. After all, whats the point in buying a car with an MOT? Many thanks to Dan for his great offer on the car and not laughing at us for thinking that we will actually make it to Mongolia - we`ll send you a postcard!

OUR CAR! Yes we finally bought the liability that will be hopefully getting us to Mongolia!

*No small children were harmed in the testing of this car. Well only one.

Launch of teamboar.co.uk

The Team Boar Website officially launched today.

At the launch, held in Buckhingham Palace, the Queen commented on the exciting pages and information available. Johnathon Ross; Primeminister of Great Britain, declared that he will be checking every day for updates, and hopes one day to become a member of Team Boar.

More actual stuff will be added to the website in the coming weeks, using a process known as keyhole surgery. No, really.
