The Mongol Rally
The Mongol Rally is the ultimate challenge - to drive from Hyde Park in London, England to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia - in a car with a 1 litre engine or less. The route is over 9000 miles long and spans 18 or more countries over at least 4 weeks. 2008 will see 200 cars launching as the 5th Mongol Rally on 19th July, aiming to raise over £250,000 for charities in Mongolia and en-route to Mongolia. The Mongol Rally is organised by The Adventurists.
Team Boar
Team Boar was formed by James Golding and Douglas Gemmell in 2007 as a team who would be entering the Mongol Rally in 2008. The name was chosen partly because of the previous, similar name often used of ‘Team Moose’, and partly because the head of a boar featured in the crest of The Judd School, Tonbridge, Kent, where both James and Douglas attended between 1993 and 2000 for their secondary education.
James is 26 years old, living in Sevenoaks. Douglas is 25 years old, living in Kemsing.
The Adventurists
The Adventurists is a company who organise daring and exciting adventures across the world, founded by ‘Mr Tom’ who first tried to drive from the UK to Mongolia in 2001. The Mongol Rally is their most famous and most challenging event, attracting an estimated 10,000 applications every year. Events organised by The Adventurists generally involve raising money for charities local to the various countries by travelling through them using highly unsuitable transport, such as a car with a 1 litre engine or a rickshaw. The Adventurists do not provide a safety net backup for teams.
